Part II: Fabrics, cuts and Turkish tea
After we have agreed on the designs, it's time to select and order the fabrics for the season. We only work with sustainable qualities such as high-quality organic cotton, Lenzing Modal or recycled polyester. The prices for raw materials fluctuate from season to season and also depend on the current dollar exchange rate. Since this is sometimes subject to strong fluctuations, a style can become 20% more expensive from one season to the next, which can sometimes cause us a lot of difficulties as a company, as it is very important to us to keep the prices as stable as possible for you.
Our new material, recycled polyester, is examined closely by Jennie (Brand Direction). Of course, the best way to do this is with a Turkish tea... we drank a lot of that in the three days we were there - the days sometimes had up to 18 hours for us and that's how we kept ourselves awake.
Jennie goes through the complicated cuts with the on-site cutting technician to determine how much waste is created and how to optimize it and avoid mistakes. Especially during the manufacturing process, you can reduce so-called pre-consumer waste and thus save valuable resources. Here you can see the print of the fabric for our new Keffiah pants - one of our absolute favorite pieces and even just modeled it's pretty casual, right? ;) The team is now discussing how the cut should be best and where changes are necessary - one of our absolute favorite parts and even just modeled it's pretty casual, right? ;)
“Which combination do you like best?”
Various color options for our “Team OGNX” shirt were also put to the test, and you will soon find the final result online in our shop.
We measure samples and check whether our dimensional specifications have been met. Here you can see our cotton Hawaiian pants, one of your current favorites, being measured exactly.
Part III about the different steps of production will come next week!
